Calculus Versus The Fool

Infinity. That’s the power behind calculus. You can do all sorts of mathematical calculations when you consider certain factors as they approach infinity.

So what does that have to do with The Fool?

What would you call someone who was offered an immediate $100,000 or a penny a day that would be doubled each day for 30 days, and he took the $100,000?

—– A Fool! —–

Why? Because doubling a penny for 30 days would yield almost 11 million dollars.

Now the 30 days is a little tricky as most people couldn’t imagine how quickly just a penny could accumulate into such a large sum. But it probably wouldn’t trick anyone if you said the penny would double for 36,500 days (about 100 years). Then if he took the $100,000 you would consider that person the absolute fool of fools.

Now we still haven’t touched Calculus and infinity yet, but the numbers are getting bigger and that’s the first step.

When you compare a number with infinity, any number by comparison is zero. You can see this by looking at these numbers: 1/10, 1/100, 1/1000, 1/10000, 1/100000, …

You see, as the number at the bottom gets so large that it approaches infinity, the overall value of that fraction approaches zero. And, you can put any number on the top and with infinity at the bottom, the value is still zero.

Now what would you say about someone who was offered massive wealth, perfect health, fame, and powerful influence for 100 years but had to surrender his soul to the Devil for all eternity (or an infinite amount of years beyond the 100)?

Well, if we look at it in light of Calculus, those 100 years, by comparison, turn out to be nothing but a big ZERO!

I think most people would conclude that person to be an absolute fool. Matthew 16:26 says,

For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Pretty simple concept isn’t it? Every day, we are bombarded by the media, telling us that we evolved and are just animals with no purpose in life. As such, we will poof out of existence when we die, so we better squeeze everything out of this life, because there is no tomorrow. But what happens if that’s all a lie? What happens if there really is this person called the Devil who wants you to spend eternity in a horrible, horrible place?

Did you know that if you spent your whole life in a monastery, or you switched places with some poor person condemned for life in a destitute prison in a third world country where you suffered for 70 years in sickness and misery, that your life would, once again, be ZERO when compared to infinity just like the person in luxury?

Whatever the motivation, only a fool would go for the 100 years if there was the remotest chance that there was an infinity beyond those 100 years. Once again:

For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

You ever wonder why evolutionists talk about erosion’s ability to carve out giant canyons over millions of years, but ignore erosion’s seeming inability to shave down all the colossal mountain ranges over those same millions of years? Could there be a major inconsistency in their theory?

You ever wonder how those huge massive holes (the Atlantic and Pacific) came about and then were somehow filled with water?

Are you sure you haven’t been lied to? Have you resigned yourself to what the Bible calls

…science falsely so called: Which some professing have erred concerning the faith.” (I Timothy 6:20-21)

If the evolutionist and atheists are right, then we’re all a bunch of zeroes and in less than 100 years, poof, it doesn’t matter.

But maybe the Bible answers those questions about the mountains and the oceans, plus a whole lot more. It doesn’t matter though, if you’ve stopped seeking for truth. If you’ve already resigned yourself to what turns to be a falsehood, then someday you’ll awake to a very unpleasant and eternal surprise.

Only a fool wouldn’t check out the Bible’s claims concerning infinity. If the claims are just a bunch of twisted ideas from some really twisted people, then you really are a ZERO. But, if they are right, here are a couple things you might pay attention to.

Luke 12:16-21
And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

 

Romans 1:18-22
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools…

 

Now, I believe the evidence around us clearly supports the validity of the Bible. And in the Bible, it tells us that we are anything but ZEROs. It tells us of being created by a loving God for a wonderful purpose. It tells us that we can spend eternity with this same God who loved us so much he suffered and died in our place.

Don’t settle for nothing. Check it out. Read the Bible. Seek out a person who believes the Bible is God’s word and ask him or her all the hard questions that you think make the Bible just a fairy tale book. But whatever you do, please don’t resign yourself to a lie.

Don’t wait too long. A stewardess was given, by at least six different people, Bible tract information. This occurred within days of September 11th. Her flight ended up being the first to crash into one of the World Trade Center buildings. Did she think she had plenty of time to check things out? Hopefully not, and she is now in the beginning stage of infinity with God.
